This ensemble, which has been performing together for over 15 years has focused on the development of group empathy and a definitive ensemble sound. We believe this group has developed trust and respect for each other and the musical ideas that naturally follow.

This CD was recorded over a 3-year period in the front room at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club – Melbourne, Australia. The selection of tracks was guided by the level of creativity within the performances of the group.

We decided to release a live CD because we believe that most of our best performances are on the bandstand and not in the studio. Live recording captures many performance based nuances that the recording studio cannot, including the role of the audience and the specific positioning of the ensemble.

In mixing this CD we have made sure the character of the room (front room at Bennett’s Lane) is evident, especially when listening to the drums.

The group would like to thank: Jazzhead records (Andrew and Sheena), Paper Stone Scissors for the CD design, Hadyn Buxton and Ben Grayson
for engineering and mixing of the CD.

Rob Burke would like to thank: Atia, Yasmin, Hannah and Amali for their great support and inspiration, my parents (Bob and Yvonne) and sisters, Monash University, Rico reeds, George Garzone and all my mates (especially the band) that talk to me about music amongst other things.

Nick Haywood would like to thank: Nellie, Che, Ella and Ruby-Rose for their love and encouragement. He would especially like to thank Rob, Tony and Tony for their friendship and support over a long period of time. Also thanks to Benedict Puglisi at Atelier Puglisi for looking after my instrument so well for so long.

Tony Floyd thanks: An, Lucinda and Leroy for your love and support. My family and friends. Sleishman Drums, the best I’ve ever played. Rob, Nick and Tony G. for your continued friendship and beautiful creativity.

Tony Gould thanks Imogen Manins, Iluka and anyone that listens to this music.
